You can’t help but feel like you have arrived in the land before time. Sailing through crystal-clear waters, surrounded by rolling hills with small fishing villages dotting the shoreline. A mere 1-hour flight from Bali and 15-minute drive to the port and you have arrived in this haven… Flores is one of the biggest islands in the province of Nusa Tenggara Timur (East Nusa Tenggara – NTT). The doorstep to the infamous Komodo Islands, this chain of the Lesser Sunda is brimming with marine life. Best navigated by boat, we jumped aboard the Le Pirate Explorer to soak up a weekend of pure bliss. Joining two of our favourite Bali babes from We-like Bali, Aussie-beauty Lucette Romy & the marketing mogul’s (Kim Herben + Yenny Leung) from Potato Head Bali – we were ready to put our feet in the sand and disconnect from the “real” world.
The Le Pirate Explorer boat definitely stands out from the rest. With a ‘jukung’ style design painted in a crisp white with hints of turquoise blue. The base of the boat is the ultimate hang-spot, place for meals and probably the best outdoor cinema we’ve ever been to. We spent our nights sleeping in a camp style setting with bedrooms separated by zip-up sheer fabric. Equipped with all the amenities and toys you would want, a little dingy can take you to nearby isolated beaches. Snorkel gear is at your disposal, with the captain knowing all the best spots to feast your eyes on coral gardens and swim amongst fish, turtles and dolphins, to name a few.
Rising with the sun, eating fresh fruit platters, diving into the ocean for our morning dip, swimming with manta-ray’s at lunch, cruising through the incredible mountainous terrain, watching the horizon gulp up the last rays of the day and settling in under a luscious full moon with the sounds of the ocean lapping against the boat. We even managed to squeeze in a yoga session en route to the Komodo National Park.
Left to right; Eve wears our Bijou Dress Rico, Lucette wears our Evi Shirt & Pris wears our Bailey Shirt. If we aren’t tantalising your adventure taste buds, we’re not sure what else will. One thing is for sure – a weekend aboard the Le Pirate Explorer is a bonding experience – with the ocean, your friends, the incredible staff that are there at your beckoning call and ultimately yourself…
